ECO-FRIENDLY BEAUTY FOR A SOUTH AFRICAN

Beauty The Beauty Industry in Africa and the Middle East has estimated at about $27.1 Billion in 2018. While Black consumers are reported to spend 9 times more in Beauty than other ethnicities, we can't help but imagine the positive environmental impact this would bring if brands were to be more conscious in all their processes whilst educating consumers. This in-turn would help consumers to make more ECO-FRIENDLY buying decisions. At Conscious Lifestyle Collective, we've come up with creative and educational content whilst promoting eco-friendly products. We used social media, our blog and newsletters to drive awareness. As we dive in deeper, we found research which shows GREEN CONSUMERS life in urban areas such as the Western Cape and Gauteng. Furthermore, the more disadvantaged communities that live in Townships and inner cities lack: 1. GREEN EDUCATION 2. GREEN PRODUCT OFFERING 3. PROMOTION OF ECO-FRIENDLY PRODUCTS AND BENEFITS 4. GREEN ACTIVITIES I.E. RECYCLING, REUSING AND REDUCING The common social media comments and concerns address the fact that someone living in disadvantage communities has much more to worry about than to have an environmental concern. While this is true, it is still important to educate people about how to make better environmental decisions which in-turn will benefit them greatly. The other concern is how expensive it is to live consciously, we also agree that most of the products available are pricey, this is more reason to make it accessible, the higher the demand the lower the cost of making goods. Here's what you can do as a Beauty Brand and as a consumer you need to use your voice, educate brands and hold them accountable but do so with kindness:) Shop Eco-friendly Products

What Should We Know About Sustainable Beauty

beauty Elements Of A Sustainable Beauty Product or Brand For a beauty product to be defined as sustainable it needs to meet certain criteria. This includes:  Sustainable production methods Ethical practices  Environmentally-friendly formulations  Eco-packaging  The ingredients should be organic, natural and made from raw renewable materials. Other elements that should be incorporated into sustainable beauty products are non-toxic ingredients, cruelty- free and vegan.  Most store-bought beauty products are filled with toxins which with long term exposure cause harm to your body. Deodorants are a good example of this. Most deodorants contain harmful ingredients such as Triclosan, Phthalates, Parabens and Aluminum all of which have a detrimental effect on your health. These ingredients not only cause harm to humans but also to the environment.   Our natural deodorants only contain ingredients that work in harmony with your skin and don’t have an effect on the planet. They are aluminum-free, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal and never leave marks on your clothing. Similarly our Aurora body oil only contains natural essential oils which can help you to start your day feeling refreshed. The Difference Between Vegan and Cruelty-Free It’s important to know that just because a product is marked cruelty-free doesn’t necessarily mean it’s vegan. For a product to be labelled vegan it must not contain any animal based products such as honey or beeswax. A product can also be both vegan and cruelty-free but still contain toxic ingredients. Aim to find products that tick all of the boxes that way you can ensure it’s a truly sustainable product. Sustainable Processes and Practises As well as incorporating all of the above elements into their products sustainable beauty businesses must also look into their company practices.  Ethical Sourcing  All products should be made using ethical practices and procedures. Has the ingredients been extracted in a way that doesn’t harm the environment around it? Were the workers paid a fair wage? Were the working conditions safe?  Eco-Friendly Packaging  Packaging is another important factor to consider. Can the materials used be refilled, recycled, reused or composted? It’s not uncommon for brands that claim to be eco-friendly to overlook their packaging.  Resource and Waste Management  Does the company have a robust resource and waste management plan? Do they monitor their water usage? Are all ingredients used sourced from sustainable suppliers? How do they efficiently and sustainably dispose of any waste?  Initiative  A company should constantly be striving for perfection in all aspects of business. There are always improvements that can be made in terms of sustainable practices. Find businesses who actively seek to improve their sustainable credentials and re-evaluate their current practices regularly.

ALL NATURAL FACE MASKS

Embracing nature Embracing Nature aims to provide customers with affordable, natural and sustainable products. Claire Featherstone Founder and Creator of EMBRACING NATURE uses a wide range of natural and locally sourced ingredients, glass packaging and recyclable/compostable packaging as well as offering refills to some of her products. beauty Clean beauty ingredients you need to know about The main ingredients to look out for are things that make up the base of natural face masks:. NATURAL CLAYS such as bentonite or kaolin clay- this acts as a mild exfoliant and reduces excess oils NATURAL OILS like glycerin, sweet almond, coconut oil, jojoba oil - as these oils provide hydration and reduce any drying out of the skin NATURAL PRESERVATIVES like vitamin E - as these are less harmful to your skin and the environment and help preserve your products If your product contains essential oils ensure that there is a carrier oil like sweet almond oil, coconut oil, or jojoba oil as this helps evenly allow the essential oils to be absorbed into your skin, it reduces the rate at which your skin soaks up the oils meaning that it helps create lasting effects from the essential oil and it reduces any burning or skin reactions to some of the stronger essential oils. What Should You Use For Your Skin Type? OILY SKIN: look for products containing oatmeal, clays such as charcoal, and lemon oils. DRY SKIN: look out for products packed full with natural oils like jojoba oil, coconut oil and sweet almond oil, Honey, aloe vera, and lavender and rose essential oils. NORMAL TO COMBINATION SKIN: look for products made with rose oil, rose water, grapeseed oil, coconut oil, and avocado. ACNE PRONE SKIN: now this is a hard one, I recommend if you suffer from severe acne to take a visit to your dermatologist as there can be many causes to sever acne and scaring. But focus on ingredients like salic acid, tea tree oil, aloe vera and green tea. Our Products Natural FACE MASKS for your skin type 01 Lavender mask Lavender mask which helps soothe skin and reduce inflammation as well as helps reduce acne, blemishes and scaring. Embracing The Benefits of Nature

Nature has so much to offer that is truly packed fill with awe-inspiring natural properties that can benefit us in a multitude of ways. Thus, I came up with the name Embracing Nature an all-natural, sustainable and Eco-friendly bath and body brand that uses the wonders of nature's properties to offer our very own skin with the purest most natural benefits.Embracing Nature Who are we? What is our goal?Embracing Nature was started out a pure passion and love for the environment and trying in every way possible, as small as it maybe, to change consumerism and become more conscious of how we shop and affect the environment. The aim of Embracing Nature is to provide our customers with natural and Eco- friendly products that are affordable and beneficial to your skin as well as the environment. We source local produce and ingredients from other small businesses. By doing this we are reducing carbon emissions, sourcing sustainable ingredients, Eco-friendly packaging and creating an environment that supports other small local businesses.Sustainability How Embracing Nature is transforming your routine.I did extensive research into how our everyday bath and body products affect the environment, all the way from plastic consumption to chemical pollutants. Plastic pollution is our number one enemy with close to half a million tonnes of plastic produced every year, with a staggering 91% of plastic NOT being recycled. In South Africa a mere 16% of plastic is recycled with the rest ending up in landfill which ends up in water sources adding to the 80% of marine pollution. The beauty industry alone contributed 120 billion units of cosmetic packaging in 2018.So how has Embracing Nature changed this? I have packaged all my products in glass, which is more durable and longer lasting than plastic, easily reusable and recyclable, and doesn't leach chemicals into my products. Furthermore, my packing is minimal with the limited use of paper and any forms of plastic. In any way possible I limit any plastic and use recyclable or reusable packaging. So, take a look at how Embracing Nature is changing the way we shop. Check out our shampoo bars and solid form soaps as well as our lotions all packaged in glassVISIT STORE
